This image is from a series of photographs that I took on the flight to Canada from Sydney and back again, when I went to a conference last year to present my research on "Remembering Australia's Forgotten Mothers" at the Mothers and History: Histories of Motherhood international conference hosted by groundbreaking international research institute MIRCI (Motherhood Initiative for Research and Community Involvement) which is based at York University in Toronto. Kudos to Canadian researchers for leading the field in international research into motherhood across all academic disciplines. It would be inspiring to see more of such initiatives in Australia, another country which is founded on colonialism and has a complex and interesting history, or herstories, of motherhood.
