Ruth Skilbeck, Cloudland #12, 2012
Flying high as an academic, last year, continued. This is another photographic image taken from the window of the plane as I returned to Sydney from an international conference in Toronto, on mothers and history and histories of motherhood, hosted by MIRCI, the Motherhood Initiative for Research and Community Involvement, based at York University. I presented my original research into "Remembering Australia's Forgotten Mothers" and my own family story in the histories of the "stolen generations", when untold numbers of children were taken from their mothers, predominantly Indigenous mothers, but others too, and the history of colonialism in Australia. My essay on this topic is published in the journal of the Motherhood Initiative Vol. 3, No 2 (2012).
